Job Seeker Visa in Portugal

The Job Seeker Visa is intended for citizens from non-EU/EEA/Switzerland countries who wish to enter Portugal to seek employment opportunities. This visa allows entry into the country and the subsequent request for a residence permit once a job has been secured.

Who can apply?

All foreign citizens who are not nationals of EU Member States, the European Economic Area, or Switzerland, and who wish to seek employment in Portugal.

Where and when to apply?

The request must be submitted at Portuguese consular posts or VFS offices with jurisdiction in the applicant's country of residence. Before scheduling an appointment, it is necessary to submit a declaration of intent with the Institute of Employment and Vocational Training (IEFP).

Required Documentation

Personal Documentation:

  • Completed visa application form;
  • The passport must be valid for more than three months after the planned return date;
  • Two recent passport-sized photos;
  • Valid travel insurance covering medical expenses, including urgent care and possible repatriation in case of death;
  • Criminal record certificate from the country of origin or residence for over one year;
  • Request for consultation of the Portuguese criminal record by AIMA;
  • Proof of accommodation;
  • Proof of financial means of at least three times the minimum monthly guaranteed salary.

Specific Documentation:

  • Personal statement indicating the conditions of the planned stay;
  • Proof of declaration of interest for IEFP registration.

Visa Validity and Extension

The job search visa is granted for 120 days, extendable for another 60 days, upon proof of IEFP registration. If no job is secured within this period, the applicant must leave the country and can only reapply for this visa one year after the previous visa expires.

Fees:

  • Residence visa: €90 (euros).
    *Processing fee in local currency will depend on the euro exchange rate.

Processing Time

Processing time is approximately 60 days , consisting of two stages: the first at the Consulate (or VFS) and the second at AIMA.
