The Digital Nomad Visa is intended for remote professionals from countries outside the EU/EEA/Switzerland who wish to live and work in Portugal while maintaining employment or business ties outside the country. This visa allows entry into the country and the subsequent application for a residence permit.
Who can apply?
All foreign citizens who are not nationals of EU Member States, the European Economic Area, or Switzerland, and who intend to carry out remote professional activities for foreign companies or clients.
Where and when to apply?
The application must be submitted at the Portuguese consular posts or VFS centers with jurisdiction in the applicant's country of residence.
Required documentation:
- Personal Documentation:
- Completed visa application form;
- The passport must be valid for more than three months after the planned return date;
- Two recent passport-sized photos;
- Valid travel insurance covering medical expenses, including urgent care and possible repatriation in case of death;
- Criminal record certificate from the country of origin or residence for over one year;
- Request for consultation of the Portuguese criminal record by AIMA;
- Proof of accommodation;
- Proof of means of subsistence.
- For remote workers:
- Proof of an employment contract or service provision agreement with a company based outside Portugal;
- Declaration from the employer confirming the possibility of remote work;
- Proof of average monthly earnings of at least four times the Portuguese minimum wage in the last three months;
- Income tax return or other tax documents proving professional activity.
- Financial Requirements:
- In 2025, the minimum monthly salary to apply for the Digital Nomad Visa in Portugal is €3,480;
- Savings of at least 12 times the Portuguese minimum wage;
- If bringing family members to Portugal, an additional 50% savings for a spouse and 30% more for each dependent will be required.
Fees:
- Residence visa: €90 (euros)

Processing time: Approximately 60 days
The procedure involves two stages of document submission to complete the visa process: First stage: Submission at the Consulate (or VFS). Second stage: Submission to AIMA.
